Maine: The Ocean

8.15.2012

People may as well call the ocean in Maine the freezing ice pool of death. Even in the summer. And surprisingly... I love it.
I know the picture above has absolutely nothing to do with the ocean... but isn't it one of the cutest things you've ever seen? Say yes.
Most of the coastline (at least in Acadia) consists of rocks, forests, and cliffs. Sandy beaches are a rare thing here. And when I say rare I really mean that there's just one. One beach. It's actually called Sand Beach *genius* but I have no pictures of it, because for some reason this is where all of the tourists flock. Even with miles and miles of awesome trails, people go to the beach where the water will give you hypothermia from just looking at it. Go figure. What I'm trying to say is that I avoided that little spot.
Want to know something weird? I was completely enchanted by the Maine coastline. Even though I didn't even put a toenail in that ice pool, the actual coastline stole my heart. It might have been the fact the it looked like it could come right out of a Stephen King novel *fun fact: I had a total obsession with Mr. King* But then again that thought terrifies me. No one ever wants to be in a Stephen King novel. So I'll just go with the fact that it is freaking beautiful. Yup, let's go with that. Put the mountains and the ocean together- I will just stand drooling. So now you know.

so beautiful! i went to school on the north shore of MA and only went in the water a handful of times because it was always soooo cold! and then after one of those days, some signs showed up saying that the water was contaminated .. needless to say that was the last time i attempted to swim haha

Oh man, you're making my heart swoon. the only thing that stops me is the husband's aversion to immense amounts of snow...

Gorgeous photos! I love the ocean as well. I haven't swam in one in years (wow. that's a sad thought!) but I have so many great memories putting more than a toenail in the Pacific Ocean.

We drove down the coast of Maine two summers ago, and I loved it, too! To me, it's just like the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota, where I grew up. Thanks for sharing your pics!
