I'm Not Here Anymore...I'm Over There

12.09.2013

It feels weird to say, but I'm moving on.
Blogger will no longer be the place my blog calls home.
I've decided to consolidate my Spurlock Photography blog and my personal blog.
You can now find me HERE.

And of course, I'll still be following all of your amazing blogs!

So come on over to the new digs... click here!

Just...A Weird Feeling

11.14.2013

You know when you just get a feeling that what's happening around you is weird?
You can't quite define why it's strange, but all the same, it's definitely strange. And you walk away from the experience going, "what the f@#! just happened?"

Those photos up there? They're pretty decieving. You look at them, and you might say, man... they must have had just such a cool night hanging out in a field and listening to music.

But no, for some reason Rion and I walked away from this event feeling very confused.
For example, what's with the bulls? What the freak is that guy doing with those bulls, and why was he doing it at this party?

Some questions will never be answered.

7 Years

11.12.2013

A whole 7 years since my world stopped.
7 years since I learned that at times you need to think about breathing.
7 years since his hand left mine.

I may not have my dad on this earth physically. But he is here.
He is here in everything I do.

Still, sometimes I just wish I could hear his laugh one more time.

Never Stop Exploring

11.05.2013

We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.

It's Amazing Really...

10.29.2013

...how cute they are together.

Don't you think?

I'm On Top of the World

10.23.2013

No. I'm not talking about the Imagine Dragons' song, although that song is freaking catchy and I want to have a never ending dance party to it.
I'm talking about this amazing hike up Mt. Sentinel in Missoula.
We literally road our bikes to the trail head, hiked to the top of the world (so maybe that's an exaggeration), and climbed back down the mountain while looking over this beautiful town of ours.

Even if the hike didn't literally take me to the top of the world, it sure made me feel like I was there.

With that song playing in the background of course.

Sometimes

10.03.2013

Sometimes the mountains are the perfect cleanse for your soul.
Sometimes the cool fall air wakes you up to life.
Sometimes your life starts to settle, and the new becomes normal.

Our Montana home makes me feel all of this, in the best way possible.

Apartment Glimpses

9.23.2013

We rolled into Missoula at 7AM on a Saturday morning, and by 3PM that day we had signed a lease for an apartment. Call us hasty, call us foolish, call us whatever you want, but we officially live in downtown Missoula!
A bike path passes right by our apartment, and we can bike to just about everything. Farmer's markets, an amazing dog park (which will have its own post), church, pretty much anything that was ever important, ever!
We can even bike to trailheads that lead to scenic hikes.
I'm pretty sure this is what Heaven is like.

That Time I Moved Cross-Country--as Seen by My Instagram

9.17.2013

A glimpse at the mountains in the never-ending state that is Virginia.
 The ugly made beautiful.
 Hanging with the presidents.
 A menacing storm.
 Grilled. Cheese. Truck.
Our new home.

It was a long (85hrs of driving) journey.
And I'm so glad we're somewhere that we can call home.

Montana Dreams

But this time, they're becoming a reality.
Yesterday Rion got a job offer from Big Sky Brewing Co. in Montana.
So he's officially a brewer, and we'll officially be living in Montana by the end of next week.
Holy crap.

A Photo and a Site

8.22.2013

I've been told that in order to truly pursue your goals they need to be verbalized.
So...
I want to start making an income through photography.
And this is my first step.

I've made a photography website, and I'm starting to build my portfolio. This post isn't necessarily to garner support, but rather it's a statement. It's a statement that solidifies what I've been thinking about for awhile, and it makes it a reality.
I've set up a photography button over on my sidebar, so if you'd like, feel free to check it out. Feedback is always appreciated, but mostly I'm posting this to finally say it out loud.

A Party for Two

8.15.2013

A birthday party.
And this year Rion nailed it.
It was just him and me, some of the most delicious burgers your taste buds could ever dream of, a drink or two, and plenty of laughs.
It was perfect.

Oh and do you see those taste exploding jalapeno pimento cheese fries up there? Yea that might have contributed to the happiness too.

It's Insanity

8.13.2013

Something happened guys... I got all healthy.
I'm not really sure where this came from, whether it's the normal amount of sleep I'm getting, the free time, the lack of stress, but it just kind of happened.
I've been thinking about eating a more Paleo diet *disclaimer: Paleo is way too strict for me--I'm sorry but you'll take my wine away when you rip it out of my cold, dead fingers* but generally, Rion and I have seriously cleaned up our eating. And guess what? It feels good! I've never been a diet person, I can't deprive myself, I have too much of a "f@$! it" attitude, and I didn't want to compromise my life just to reach some sort of goal weight.
Now that Rion and I are eating clean, I still feel that way, but the food I eat (and enjoy) is really different. I'm actually cherishing and enjoying real food now, not craving ridiculous candy bars that are processed out the wazoo. I never wanted to compromise my happiness by giving up certain foods, but eating clean makes me WAY happier than I was before.

And then Insanity happened.
One of my best friends did the 60-day Insanity workout, and her results were incredible! It's literally the most ridiculously hard workout you've ever done, and that's just what I wanted.
So today, I started my Insanity journey.
I'm loving these life changes.
